Six Sigma at the Scottish Parliament

Moore Allison

Why Scotland Needs Six Sigma – Managing the Six Sigma Way.

The seminar, hosted by Jim Mather MSP, was held at the Scottish Parliament on 20th September 2006 and was attended by MSPs, Scottish Executive staff and Scottish business leaders.

Moore Allison gave an overview of the status of Six Sigma in Scotland and went on to describe how, in any kind of organisation, Six Sigma thinking brings about a data driven, continuous improvement culture.

The attendees discussed how Six Sigma techniques produce reliable data, provide insightful methods for “turning data into information” and teach how to interpret and use data to manage a process by understanding how to distinguish between the inherent variation which is present in all processes and “special cause” variation – failure to appreciate the difference is what makes organisations struggle against the same old problems time and time again.
